Cleat, Clutch or Jammer?
All three hold a line so you can lock it off, confident its being held. They differ in how much load they control and how you release it.
- Cleats - hand held loads where either the load is lower or reduced with purchase. Fast and quick control. If you need a winch you need a Clutch or Jammer to control the load.
- Clutches — Halyards, Sheets and Control lines controlled by winches can be held with Clutches. The rope feeds through the clutch or bank of clutches and when loaded can be securely held. Whist we recommend a loaded line is controlled using the winch, the clutch handle can be opened under load and releases the rope.
- Jammers — for the highest loads and sometimes largest diameters. With a large surface areas the Jaws in the Jammer lock on the line. Holding very high loads, a Jammer will always be releases by taking the load back on the winch first.

Which load band do I need?
The band describes how much tension the device will hold on the line. Match it to the highest load the line sees, not the average — a halyard peaks as the sail loads up.
- Light — control lines and small-boat work, released under hand load.
- Mid — halyards, reefing and sheets on cruising and club racing yachts.
- High — loaded halyards and sheets on performance yachts, held and released under winch load.
- Ultra high — grand prix and short-handed racing, where the line is at its limit.

Where it fits
- Deck — bolted flat to the coachroof or deck, the standard arrangement.
- Side mount — angled port or starboard so a bank of units fits a narrow coachroof edge.
- Mast — mounted vertically on the spar, where finish and durability matter most.
- Mobile — attached with a strop and moved to wherever the line needs holding.

Ganging up
Single, double and triple units share one base, so a bank of lines takes up less deck than the same number of separate units and lines up cleanly with the organiser feeding it.

Holding a loaded line is the hardest thing to ask of a piece of deck hardware: Grip it hard enough and you damage the cover, grip it gently and it slips when it matters.
