The Ocean Race saw the start of its longest leg yesterday with the teams leaving Cape Town and travelling a monstrous 12,750-nautical mile (14,672-mile/23,613-kilometre) journey through the Southern Ocean passage three quarters of the way around the bottom of the world.
Spinlock are watching with bated breath as this leg counts as double in terms of points, with the first set of points awarded for the order the boats pass longitude 166° 25’ East (close to the western tip of New Zealand)
