Our Story

Spinlock is an independent and innovative company based in Cowes, UK, the 'Home of Yachting'. Spinlock has over forty years; experience of designing and manufacturing for the marine sector.

Spinlock began as Offshore Instruments in 1968 based in London moving to Cowes in 1976 to the current Head Office in Birmingham Road which originally housed the production, offices and flat. The Company developed a market-leading range of rope control devices using new materials and volume-oriented processes, leveraged from the emergence of high tensile fibre ropes, the company changing its name in the 1980s to Spinlock to better reflect this new direction.

Still a global leader in this sector with the product category now identified as CONTROL. From this time Spinlock began to grow a global team of Distributors with expansion requiring the Production to move to a separate local site. In 2004 the strategy for growth outside our core sector saw the creation of the PROTECT category which extended the Spinlock style and quality to high-end technical personal safety range which has since expanded to include Commercial marine and the wider water sports users. In 2008 we added a subsidiary office in the USA to market our products and give more direct local technical support. A third category SENSE added in 2016 included our first Apps which provide data devices and services to support and enhance our existing customer offering.

Our products are designed by our own in-house design team, which includes engineers and technical textile specialists who continually look for the latest technology and materials to use in our award-winning innovative products. We test all our products to the limit in our own facilities to ensure that they will perform in the toughest of marine environments.

Our clean assembly production facility is located nearby, every product is assembled and quality checked by hand by our team at this Cowes based facility.
